This scheme was one of a series of highways improvements within the Phase 1 design of Stockport Council’s Town Centre Access Plan (TCAP). The TCAP project was a package of measures aimed to transform the accessibility and connectivity around Stockport Town Centre.

The proposed development primarily included the provision of a new entrance and exit to Heaton Lane car park from Great Egerton Street. A right turn pocket into the new Heaton Lane car park access was provided on Great Egerton Street by widening the main carriageway. Also Included within the works was the closure of the existing access to the car park from Heaton Lane which needed to remain gated for future maintenance and emergency use.

We constructed an additional shared footway and cycleway along Heaton Lane and an off-road cycle facility across the old access to Heaton Lane car park. The existing internal car park layout, approximately 3,000m2 over two levels, required numerous amendments to facilitate the new access arrangements.

Our works encompassed: -

  • Site establishment
  • Site clearance
  • Drainage and Service Ducts
  • Earthworks
  • Footway construction and surfacing
  • Carriageway construction and surfacing
  • Kerbing, channel and edging installation
  • Traffic sign installations
  • Road markings
  • Street lighting and illuminated furniture works
